Eel Lake in a canoe

Last week we borrowed a friends canoe and took a 4 hour, 5.2 mile trip up the East arm of Eel Lake at Tugman State Park. We lucked out on the weather, too. It was an awesome, sunny day!

We saw 2 Osprey and their nest, lots of newts swimming around in the water, some interesting globs of slime (which may be frog eggs) and lots of fresh beaver chew. We also heard a tree fall somewhere in the woods nearby. We didn’t hear it hit the water or the ground but as we rounded a turn we were hit by the strong smell of pine. It was strange and a little unnerving. But, we had a great day on the lake and now we need to go back and do the West arm.
